Chelsea is ready to give up the European Cup if they win against Liverpool

Chelsea does not want to participate in the Europa Conference League next season for financial reasons.

Chelsea does not have many opportunities to get into the leading group of the Premier League this season. “The Blues” is currently only ranked 10th on the rankings of the foggy country’s number one tournament, 14 points behind the top 4 as well as 12 points from the Europa League spot. 

Therefore, the best chance for Chelsea to participate in the European Cup in the 2023/24 season is to win the League Cup. The winning team in this tournament will have a place in the Europa Conference League.

Chelsea will meet Liverpool in the League Cup final (11:30 p.m., February 25). Surely “The Blues” will be determined to win this tournament, but whether or not they will participate in the Europa Conference League is another story.

According to the Daily Mail, the Stamford Bridge team is ready to consider giving up the Europa Conference League if they win the League Cup. The reason is because Chelsea will earn very little money participating in this tournament. Remember that in the 2022/23 season, Chelsea earned up to 82 million pounds when reaching the 1/8 round of the Champions League. Meanwhile, the team that won the Europa Conference League that same season, West Ham, only earned 16 million pounds.

The financial fair play law that the European Football Federation (UEFA) imposes on teams participating in the European Cup is also very harsh. As in the Premier League, teams are allowed to lose 105 million pounds in 3 years. Meanwhile, UEFA stipulates that teams participating in the European Cup can only lose 68.5 million pounds within 2 years. 

Chelsea, when playing in the Europa Conference League, will have to spend more money. Meanwhile, only meeting opponents with modest qualifications makes it difficult for them to attract many spectators to Stamford Bridge. 

AC Milan asked… to be eliminated from the Europa League in the 2019/20 season. They do this so they can spend more comfortably. Chelsea is also planning to follow AC Milan’s path.
